Privacy Policy for Magical Stories: Kids Books
Effective Date: April 12, 2025
Last Updated: April 11, 2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to Magical Stories: Kids Books ("we," "us," "our," "Digital Lane LLC"). We provide an interactive storybook mobile application ("App" or "Service") designed for children, typically aged 4-9, often with parental involvement. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you and your child use our App.
Protecting children's privacy is extremely important to us. This policy is designed to comply with applicable privacy laws, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") in the United States and other relevant regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") where applicable.
By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you, the parent or legal guardian ("Parent," "you"), consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy on behalf of yourself and your child ("Child," "User"). If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not use the App.
PLEASE NOTE: While we strive for clarity, this document contains legal terms. For a simplified explanation suitable for children, please refer to the "Our Magical Privacy Promise" section within the App settings.
2. Information We Collect
We are committed to collecting the absolute minimum information necessary to operate and improve the Magical Stories: Kids Books App. We do not collect Personal Information (as defined by COPPA and other applicable laws, such as full name, email address, photos, precise location, or persistent identifiers used for tracking across sites/apps) from Children using the App.
The information we collect is limited to:
A. Anonymous, Aggregated Usage Data (Non-Personal Information):
When the App is used, we automatically collect certain anonymous and aggregated information about how the App is used internally. This information cannot be linked back to a specific child or device and is used solely to improve the App experience for everyone. This may include:
- Aggregated Feature Usage: Information about which features or stories are most popular (e.g., how many times a story is started or a button is tapped across all users).
- General Performance Data: Aggregated information about App performance, such as session lengths or load times, to help us identify and fix technical issues.
- Basic Device Category: Anonymous information about the type of device environment (e.g., OS type like iOS/Android) to ensure compatibility and aid in debugging broad technical problems. We do not collect unique device identifiers (like IDFA or Android Advertising ID).
B. Information Parents Provide Voluntarily (Limited Personal Information):
We do not require Parents to create an account to use the App. The only Personal Information we collect is when a Parent voluntarily contacts us:
- Parental Contact Information: If a Parent contacts us directly via email for support, questions, or to exercise their rights (see Section 7), we collect their name, email address, and the content of their communication solely to respond to the inquiry.
C. Information We DO NOT Collect:
To be clear, we do not collect:
- Children's names, email addresses, or other direct contact information.
- Photographs, videos, or audio files.
- Precise geolocation data.
- Unique device identifiers (like IDFA, Android Advertising ID) for tracking or advertising.
- Any information used for behavioral advertising or creating user profiles.
- Information from third-party services (like social media accounts).
D. Story Progress:
Story progress and choices made within the stories are saved directly on the User's device ("locally") to allow Users to pause and resume their adventures. This information is not transmitted to us or linked to any analytics data.
3. How We Use Information
We use the very limited information we collect solely for the following purposes:
- To Provide and Operate the App: Deliver the interactive stories and allow users to save progress locally on their device.
- To Improve the App: Analyze the anonymous, aggregated usage data (Section 2.A) to understand user engagement, identify popular features, troubleshoot technical issues, fix bugs, and enhance the overall App experience for all users.
- To Provide Customer Support: Use the Parental Contact Information (Section 2.B) provided voluntarily by Parents to respond to their inquiries, requests, and feedback.
- For Internal Operations: Ensure security and stability of the App and comply with legal obligations.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell Children's Personal Information or any other collected information. We do not share data with third parties for their marketing or advertising purposes. Information sharing is strictly limited:
- Service Providers (None Currently for App Data Collection): We currently do not use any third-party service providers (like analytics SDKs) to collect or process usage data directly from the App on our behalf. If we choose to use such services in the future (e.g., for anonymous crash reporting or improved aggregated analytics), we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly and ensure these providers adhere to strict confidentiality and data protection standards consistent with this policy and applicable law (especially COPPA).
- Parental Support: Information provided by a Parent via email is used only by us to respond to that specific inquiry.
- Legal Requirements and Safety: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) comply with a legal obligation, court order, or subpoena; (b) protect and defend our rights or property; (c) prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service; (d) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public; or (e) protect against legal liability.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or other similar event, Parent contact information (if any) may be transferred as part of the assets, subject to the promises made in this Privacy Policy. We will provide notice to Parents (if we have contact information) before information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy. Anonymous, aggregated data may also be transferred.
- Aggregated or Anonymized Data: We may share the anonymous, aggregated usage data (which cannot reasonably be used to identify any individual) with third parties for limited purposes like demonstrating App usage trends.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect the limited information we handle (primarily Parent contact information and internal anonymous analytics) from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.
6. Data Retention
We retain the anonymous, aggregated usage data only as long as necessary for analytics and App improvement purposes. Parent contact information provided for support is retained only as long as needed to resolve the inquiry and for record-keeping purposes, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Story progress data is stored locally on the user's device and is under their control.
7. Children's Privacy and Parental Rights (COPPA)
We are committed to complying with COPPA and protecting children's privacy.
- Collection Limitation: As described in Section 2, we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from Children. Collection is limited to anonymous, aggregated usage data which is not linked to individuals or devices.
- Parental Rights: Parents have the right to:
- Review Information: Contact us to inquire about the types of anonymous data we collect internally and review any Personal Information they may have provided directly to us via email.
- Request Deletion: Request deletion of any Personal Information they have provided directly to us (e.g., their email correspondence). Please note that we cannot delete the anonymous, aggregated usage data as it is not linked to individuals. Local story progress data on the device is under the user's control (e.g., by deleting the app).
- Refuse Further Contact: Request that we cease any further communication with them via email.
- How to Exercise Rights: To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information in Section 11 ("Contact Us"). We will require you to verify your identity as the Parent before processing requests related to Personal Information you provided.
8. Your Data Protection Rights (GDPR/CCPA/Other Jurisdictions)
Depending on your location, you (as a Parent) may have additional rights regarding the Personal Information you have provided to us (e.g., via email):
- Right to Access: Request access to the Personal Information we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate Personal Information.
- Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): Request deletion of your Personal Information under certain conditions.
- Right to Restrict Processing: Request restriction of processing your Personal Information under certain conditions.
- Right to Data Portability: Request transfer of your Personal Information to another organization or directly to you, under certain conditions.
- Right to Object: Object to our processing of your Personal Information under certain conditions.
To exercise these rights regarding information you have provided to us, please contact us (see Section 11). Note that these rights primarily apply to the Parent's own data provided during contact, as we do not collect Personal Information from Children via the App.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
The App itself does not link to external third-party websites or services. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated. Our website may contain links to other sites; this policy applies only to the Magical Stories: Kids Books App.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, especially regarding how we handle data, we will provide notice through the App or our website and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. If changes involve collecting new types of data subject to COPPA, we will obtain prior verifiable parental consent where required by law. Your continued use of the App after any changes signifies your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
